Mother’s Day is on Sunday 18th March this year so make a note in your diary.
History. The earliest tributes to Mother’s Day date back to the annual Spring festival the Greeks dedicated to Rhea, the mother of gods, and to the offerings ancient Romans made to their Great Mother of Gods, Cybele. Christians celebrated this festival on the fourth Sunday in Lent in honour of Mary, mother of Christ. In the UK this holiday was expanded to include all mothers and was called Mothering Sunday.
Today, families make use of the day to say a big ‘thank you’ to their Mums.
